New larger Sears store concept brokered by Michigan Commercial Properties in Big Rapids, Michigan 

After many years in Big Rapids, Michigan,  the Sears Hometown store is going to supersize by upgrading their franchise format and by moving back to 14305 Northland Drive in their newly renovated original location.

Sears recently approved an expanded version of their Sears Hometown stores that it calls “ Sears Appliance & Hardware”. This lease, brokered by Mark Baker, CCIM of Michigan Commercial Properties is one of the first in the nation.

Sears Appliance & Hardware stores are actually considered franchises and are owned and operated by local families giving their stores a unique local touch with national quality products and systems. In Big Rapids, store owners Scott & Tammy Weaver, who have owned their current store for over six years, are very excited about the change and what it will mean for their businesses and for their customers. They commented: “We have worked diligently with Sears to make this happen for our family and our customers and for our community. We have heard so many positive things about the hardware format that we cannot wait to make the move. Our customers can now have a greater selection of the legendary Sears Hardware, Paint and other products right in the store that generations have relied upon for quality and value. “

Ironically, Sears will be moving back into their original location at 14305 Northland Drive, Big Rapids, MI 49307 as soon as the space is expanded and remodeled. This location is also home to SaveALot grocery store, Fresenius Dialysis Center, Enterprise Rent-a-car, Beagle 24/7 Fitness and another new tenant, Ferris State University Bookstore. Sears expects to make the move approximately May 1, 2013.

The new store concept will increase their overall space from 8,000 square feet to 17,000 square feet with over 12,500 square feet dedicated to the sales floor.  State-of-the-art customer service equipment will be installed allowing the staff to assist customers using I-Pads throughout the store.  In the February 22, 2013 Mecosta County Chamber of Commerce newsletter–  http://www.mecostacounty.com/   , the Weavers stated: “ We will be adding hardware, paint, plumbing and electrical supplies, cleaning supplies, and have a much larger selection of tools with more specialty items, we will have automotive items like air filters, wiper blades, waxes and more. We will be able to make keys, rent Rug Doctor, plus we will still be able to order parts and send out your service items for repair. We will still carry the top 10 appliance brands and also small appliance now.
